Shuowen Jiezi (Explaining Single-component Characters and Analyzing Compound Characters) defines it as a bag. Nowadays, in Yanguan, three hu (a unit of volume) make one juan.
Also, pronounced quan. A bag with a bottom is called a juan.
Also, pronounced juan (rising tone). Refers to rolling up sleeves.
Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), Biography of Chunyu Kun contains the phrase juan gou ju. The commentary Suoyin explains that juan refers to binding or gathering up sleeves.
