According to the Broad Rhymes (Guangyun) and the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is pronounced jiong (third tone), with the same pronunciation as jiong (rising tone). The Broad Rhymes defines it as fire. The Collected Rhymes also defines it as sunlight. The Zhengzitong records that during the Tang Dynasty, there was a man named Mu Jiong, who was one of the eighteen scholars of the Hanxiang Pavilion during the Kaiyuan era. It also records that during the Later Shu of the Five Dynasties period, there was a man named Mu Jiong, the son of Mu Zhaoyi, whose family collection of books was extremely extensive.
