In the ancient text 汬 (jiǎng), according to the Guangyun, Jiyun, Yunhui, and Zhengyun dictionaries, the pronunciation is jiǎng (falling tone). The Guangyun defines it as a pit. The Jiyun defines it as a trap. In the "Chun Ling Wei Jing Hu Gou Du Zhi Li Yu Min Zhe, Qiu Ling Sai Jing Du Hu" from the Book of Zhou (Zhoushu) - Autumn Official, Section of the Head of the Department of Works, it states that in spring, regulations were made for the benefit of the people concerning pits, traps, and ditches, and in autumn, regulations were made to block pits and traps.
According to the Jiyun, Yunhui, and Zhengyun dictionaries, the pronunciation is jìng (falling tone), with the same meaning. The Jiyun states it is the same as 穽.
