According to Tang Rhymes (Tangyun) and Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is pronounced húkùn, sounding the same as hùn. Shuowen Jiezi (Shuōwén Jiězì) explains it as 'complete'. The Lost Book of Zhou (Yì Zhōu Shū) contains the sentence 'I am truly not enlightened, using huàn to my paternal uncle.' Another theory states it is interchangeable with the character hùn.
