Kangxi Dictionary

Pronounced hu wu qie in Guangyun (Guangyun) and hu gu qie in Jiyun (Jiyun), with the same pronunciation as "hu". Explained in Shuowen Jiezi (Shuowen Jiezi) as a tool for coiling ropes. According to Zhengzitong (Zhengzitong), it is a bamboo rack for hanging meat. It is interchangeable with the character "hu". The "Niuren" chapter of the Rites of Zhou (Zhouli), under the "Diguan" section, mentions "hu" used when supplying cattle and livestock. It is also the name of a type of bamboo. Seng Zanning's Sunpu (Sunpu) states that 䇘 bamboo shoots have a bitter and astringent taste, with sparse joints, and are slightly larger than arrow bamboo shoots. Mountain dwellers gather them, peel them, and thoroughly boil them in alkaline water. They turn completely golden yellow, after which they can be eaten. The bitterness is reduced, and sweetness appears, making them very delicious.
