Pronounced hang.
The appearance of a bird in flight. Originally written as the character appearing here. Flying upward is called jie, flying downward is called hang. Contemporary writing typically uses the compound jie-hang.
Book of Odes (Shijing): Swallows are flying, some flying upward, some flying downward.
Commentary: Flying upward is called jie, flying downward is called hang.
Also written in a variant form.
Yang Xiong, Changyang Fu: Fish leaping upward and birds flying downward.
