Pronounced háng.
Shuowen Jiezi (Shuowen): A boat made by joining two vessels side-by-side. The Book of Rites (Liji) states: The Son of Heaven uses a bridge of boats; feudal lords use chained boats; great officers use joined boats; gentlemen use single boats. Commentary: Xu Xuan states: It is currently written in a variant form (háng) by the common people, but this is incorrect.
History of the Later Han (Hou Hanshu), Biography of Du Du: Constructed a bridge of boats on the Wei River, crossing north over the Jing River. Commentary: Háng means to cross over. The Fangyan (Regional Speech) notes: In regions east of the pass, some refer to a boat as a háng.
Note: According to the Shuowen Jiezi, the character háng is placed under the Radical: Square. People today generally do not understand this and confuse it with the character háng, which is incorrect.
