Zi Collection, Page Position: Lower, Radical: Grass (cǎo), Page 134, Entry 09 Pronounced hān (falling tone). Refers to insects on gourds. Cui Shi, in "Essential Arts for the Common People (Qimin Yaoshu)," states: "In the twelfth month, during the Laba festival, fires are lit at the four corners of the melon patch to drive away the 䗣 insects." Also, in "Jiyun," the pronunciation is noted as hú gàn (falling tone), similar to the falling tone of "hàn." Another note gives hū jiān, similar to "xián." The meaning is the same. Also noted as hú gān, similar to "hān." Refers to insects on mulberry leaves.
