Pronounced xu fù (falling tone) in Guangyun, and kuǎng fù (falling tone) in Jiyun, with a pronunciation identical to the falling tone of the character kuàng. Boya explains it as "to look." Yupian explains it as "to open one's eyes wide and look." Furthermore, the Yangzi's Taixuanjing (Tai Xuan Jing) records: "Jìn yú xuè, cì zì féi yě." The commentary explains that cì means to examine oneself and be self-satisfied. Additionally, Zuo Si's Wei Du Fu (Wei Du Fu) writes: "Cì yān xiāng gù." The commentary explains that cì means to fear. Jiyun records that this character is the same as the character lù.
