Guangyun and Jiyun pronounce it as kun (falling-rising tone), with a sound similar to wu (falling tone). It refers to jesting or joking speech.
Book of Tang (Tangshu), Biography of Shi Siming: Shi Siming enjoyed having entertainers tell jokes and tease, often keeping them by his side during meals and daily life.
History of Liao (Liaoshi), Biography of Court Entertainers: His skill in physical comedy and jesting could not compare to that of Huang Fanchuo.
There is also the term hunyi (jesting garment).
Yunxian Zaji: During the Tang dynasty, Emperor Muzong used thin silk to write white characters and plain gauze to write black characters, crafting garments which he bestowed upon favored palace ladies. These were inscribed with frivolous and vulgar poetry, and were known as hunyi.
Jin Hu Zi Kao: It is interchangeable with the character wen (falling tone).
