Jiyun and Leipian use the Honggu method for phonetic notation; it is pronounced hu. Hanhu is a term used to describe sounds. In Wang Bao's Rhapsody on the Dongxiao (Dongxiao Fu), it is written, "Angry hanhu with melancholy twists." The commentary explains: han refers to the chin and cheeks, while hu refers to the sagging of the throat. It means the breath is full, and the appearance of hanhu is similar to a person's expression when angry.
