The Illustrated Record of the World (Guangyu Ji) records: In the Fengyang Prefecture of the Jiangnan region, it belonged to the Jiujiang Commandery during the Qin dynasty, was the Zhongli Marquisate during the Eastern Han dynasty, and was called Haozhou during the Sui, Tang, and Song dynasties. Also refers to the moat beneath a city wall. Sometimes also written in a variant form (hao).
