Broad Rhymes (Guangyun) and Collected Rhymes (Jiyun) state that this character is pronounced han. Broad Rhymes defines it as meaning to resist. Collected Rhymes specifies that it describes the appearance of a bow or crossbow being drawn, with its two ends bracing outwards. It is also written in a variant form.
There is also a place name called Han Pass. Broad Rhymes states it is the name of a mountain pass located within the territory of Wu County. Collected Rhymes adds that some say it is also the name of a county.
