Broad Collection of Matters (Boya): Gu is the water-wild rice plant. Its grain is called hu.
Record of the Western Capital (Xijing Zaji): The gu that produces grain is known by the people of Chang'an as diaohu; the variety with heads is known as lvjie.
Also a place name. Records of Wu (Wuzhi): The separate generals of Zhuge Dan were stationed at Gubei.
Also used as a loanword for isolated or lonely.
Stele for the School Officials of the Han (Han Jiaoguan Bei): Practicing the integrity of the Guzhu (the states of Guyu and Zhu).

Textual research: In the Broad Collection of Matters (Boya), it states: Gu is the water-wild rice plant, its grain is called hugu. According to the original text, the character gu has been omitted after hu.
