Yu Pian provides pronunciation using the ancient method, and Jiyun provides pronunciation using the ju method; the pronunciation is the same as Gou. Yu Pian defines it as having the meaning of Gou. Jiyun also states it is the same as Gou, referring to the cry of a pheasant. Sometimes it is also written in a variant form as Hou or Qu. Guangyun provides pronunciation using the Guhou method, and Jiyun provides pronunciation using the Juhou method; the pronunciation is the same as Gou.
