You Collection, Lower Volume Radical: City (yì) Kangxi strokes: 14 Page number: 1272, entry 05 According to the Tang Rhyme (Tángyùn) and Jiyun (Jíyùn), its pronunciation is gěng, derived from the fanqie spelling gǔ xìng. The Shuowen (Shuōwén) states that Gěng was a settlement in Langye and Ju. The Zuo Commentary (Zuǒzhuàn), under the tenth year of Duke Zhao, records: "Ji Pingzi attacked Ju and took Gěng."
