The Six Secret Teachings (Liutao) mentions the use of war chariots such as these and siege towers during the assault on a city. Additionally, according to the Compilation of Rhymes (Jiyun), the term refers to a type of carriage used by the Xiongnu people. The poem Longyang Fu by Yang Xiong contains the phrase smashing the carriage. Furthermore, according to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), in the Huaiyang region, the roof covering of a carriage is referred to by this term.
