Zi Collection, Upper Volume, Page 102, Entry 07
Radical: Grass (cǎo)
Pronounced fan (level tone)
From "Tang Yun" (Tang Yun) and "Ji Yun" (Ji Yun). Also pronounced fan (level tone).
"Shuowen" (Shuowen) says it is a small wild garlic. It is composed of the radical "jiu" (jiu) and the phonetic component "fan" (fan).
"Yupian" (Yupian) says it is a lily garlic.
"Zhang Heng's Southern Capital Rhapsody" (Zhang Heng · Nandu Fu) mentions "zhǔ zhè jiāng fán".
The annotation states: "fán" refers to small wild garlic.
Note: "Zhengzitong" (Zhengzitong) states that "fán" resembles garlic and is called lily garlic, also known as "suan niú" (suan niu), but it is not garlic. The "Shuowen" and "Wenxuan" annotations are both mistaken. This entry is preserved for further examination.
"Guangyun" (Guangyun) uses the character "shu" (shu) for this entry.
