It refers to a type of woolen fabric woven by the southern barbarians. In the History of the Later Han (Hou Hanshu), in the section on the southwestern barbarians, it is stated that the Ailao barbarians knew how to dye, embroider, and weave patterned woolen fabrics (ji) and fine woolen textiles (rui).
