Pronounced dian
Same as the character denoting madness (dian). Also, according to the Collection of Rhymes (Jiyun), it means crazy.
According to the Correct Meaning Throughgoing (Zhengzitong), it refers to a state of laughter and joy without regularity, being topsy-turvy and confused.
According to the Commentary on the Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon: Basic Questions (Huangdi Suwen Zhu), excessive joy is called dian, and excessive anger is called kuang. Joy is the disposition of the heart, so when the heart is hot, one experiences joy and becomes dian. Anger is the disposition of the liver; fire suppresses metal and is unable to regulate wood, so when the liver is replete, one experiences anger and becomes kuang.
