Zi Collection, Upper Volume Radical: Bamboo (zhú) Page 10, Entry 01 Pronounced dào. Meaning: to select, to process millet. The "Jiyun" states that processing millet into rice is called dào. The "Yunhui" cites Sima Xiangru's "Fengshan Fu": "dào one stalk with six ears of grain," referring to auspicious grain stalks with six ears. Old rhyme books used auspicious grain to explain the character dào, which is incorrect. Also, the "Yunhui" states: pronounced dǎo. It can also be used interchangeably with "dǎo". The "Qianhan · Baiguan Biao" mentions that the Shaofu (Palace Granary) had a Daoguan and a Tangguan. The Tangguan was in charge of pastries and cakes, while the Daoguan was in charge of selecting rice.
