Commentary: Li Xun says: Bamboo with nodes spaced one zhang apart is called dang. Sun Yan says: Bamboo with wide nodes is called dang.
Rites of Zhou (Zhouli): Heaven Official: Grand Minister: Used to provide the materials needed by the state through nine tributes, the fifth being material tribute.
