Ancient forms include a variant form (da) and a variant form (da).
According to Broad Rimes (Guangyun), pronounced da. According to Collected Rimes (Jiyun), Rime Compendium (Yunhui), and Correct Rimes (Zhengyun), pronounced da, and is synonymous with the pronunciation of da.
Pianhai explains it as a type of bamboo. It also means to respond, to report back, or to match/correspond.
Book of Rites (Liji), Confucian Conduct: When the ruler adopts advice, the minister does not dare to harbor doubts; when the ruler does not adopt it, the minister does not dare to flatter or fawn. Note: To respond to it refers to adopting and applying the ruler's words.
Also, History of the Han (Hanshu), Biographies of Merchants: Thickened cloth and a thousand shi of leather. Note: Thickened cloth refers to coarse, heavy fabric. Here, it describes a heavy or thick quality.
It is also the name of a river. Commentary on the Classic of Waterways (Shuijingzhu) records: The Bo River, which flows from the north side of Lou Mountain, is called the Baida River.
