Naming Meaning

Kangxi Dictionary

"Tang Yun" gives the pronunciation zuó hé. "Jiyun," "Yunhui," and "Zhengyun" give the pronunciation cái hé. The pronunciation is cuō. "Yupian" states it is the name of a county in Pei Commandery. "Qian Han · Dili Zhi" records that Pei Commandery had Zuan County. The annotation states that it was originally written as pōu. Wang Mang changed its name to Zan Zhi, so pōu was written as zuàn. "Zhengzitong" states that in the fourteenth rhyme of Zhengyun, both pōu and zuàn are recorded. The annotation for pōu is a place name in Pei State, also written as zuàn. The annotation for zuàn says it is Zuan of Pei State. There is also Zuan of Nanyang, which was originally pronounced zàn. Ban Gu said: Xiao He's fief, rhyming with He, then Zuan of Nanyang has both flat tone and departing tone. For further details, see the annotation of the character zuàn below.
