Pronounced jue. Same as the character meaning brittle. According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen jiezi), it refers to something soft and easily broken. Formed by the radical for meat and the component for downy hair, with a change in the phonetic element.
Additionally, pronounced cui. According to the Master Guan (Guanzi), in the chapter on Hegemonic Discourse, it says to release the firm and attack the brittle. According to the Seven Stimuli (Qi fa) by Mei Cheng, it states that the food and drink are warm, pure, sweet, and brittle. The commentary notes that it is pronounced cui.
Additionally, according to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is pronounced zui. The meaning is the same. According to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is sometimes written in a variant form (cui).
