According to Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen jiezi), it is a curved metal cooking vessel. Another definition is a tripod cauldron for steaming.
In the Erya: Explaining Implements (Erya: Shiqi), it states that a zhen is a chong. The commentary notes that in Liangzhou, chong is called a zhen.
