Kangxi Dictionary

Zi Collection, Middle Volume, Page 101, Entry 05 The character "䏚" (jiān) is pronounced "mi zhao qie," with the same sound as "miǎo." It is located below the hypochondrium, in the soft, hollow area on the sides of the ribs, directly lateral to the kidneys. Wang Bing, in his commentary on "Inner Classics (Neijing)," states: "When evil qi invades the Taiyin meridians, it causes lumbar pain, which extends to the lower abdomen and pulls to the "䏚" (jiān) region, making normal breathing and rest impossible."
