Xu Biao's "Nanzhou Ji" records: The fruit of the tree resembles a peach, is over one inch long, blossoms in February with the fruit attached, ripens in May, and is yellow in color. When pickled in salt, it tastes sour, similar to white plums. It is produced in the Jiuzhen region. Additionally, pronounced suǒ yàn, same pronunciation as shàn. Refers to a mattress.
