Pronounced chú
According to the Commentary on the Zuo Tradition (Zuozhuan) regarding the thirty-third year of Duke Xi: "Nou refers to a hoe."
The classic text explanation (Shíwén) notes that it is also written in a variant form (chú).
In the Verses of Chu (Chuci), section Divination (Bujū): "Would I rather weed and hoe the wild grass and cultivate the land by my own strength?"
In the Explanations of Names (Shímíng): "The word for hoe (chú) signifies assistance; it removes weeds to assist the crops in growing."
Also pronounced zhuó. This is the same as the variant form (chú). The term (chúyǔ) is also written as (chúyǔ).
