Chou Collection, Middle Volume. Radical: Earth (tǔ). Character: Cha. Kangxi strokes: 9. Page 228, Entry 11.
Sound Collection (Jiyun): Pronounced zha (level tone). Same as the character for a small hill.
Yang Xiong's Regional Speech (Fangyan): People of Yan call the center of a solid city cha. Also a place name. Chacheng, located north of Xuzhou.
Geographical Records (Yudizhi): Cha, ancient State of Song. Southwest of the city is the Temple of the Marquis of Song. Note: According to the Jade Chapters (Yupian), the ancient form for residence (zhai) is written this way. Wang Wei's poetry contains the phrase north and south of the residence, which is read as cha in the entering tone. It is suspected that this is one character that has been split into different forms due to errors.
