According to the Jade Chapters (Yupian), pronounced chou. It is identical to the character chou. See the entry for chou for details. Also mentioned in the Zuo Commentary (Zuozhuan), First Year of Duke Zhao: The Prince of Chu, Wei, sent Prince Hei Gong and Bo Zhouli to build a wall at Chou. The commentary notes that Chou County belongs to Nanyang. The Explanation of Terms (Shiwen) records it as pronounced chou. Also mentioned in the Thirteenth Year of Duke Zhao: The King seized the center of Chou from Wei Gui. The commentary notes that Middle Chou is the name of a city. Also used in names. According to the Zuo Commentary (Zuozhuan), Twenty-seventh Year of Duke Xi: Xun Linfu commanded the chariot troops, and Wei Chou served on the right. Also in the Eleventh Year of Duke Cheng: The Marquis of Jin sent Xi Chou to pay a visit. The Explanation of Terms (Shiwen) records it as pronounced chou. According to the Broad Rhymes (Guangyun) and Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is pronounced chu, with the same meaning. According to the Master Lu's Spring and Autumn Annals (Lushi Chunqiu): There was an ugly man in Chen named Dunxia Choumi, with a narrow forehead, wide brow, and a complexion like lacquer. The Marquis of Chen was pleased by him.

The Marquis of Chen was pleased by him. Note: The Broad Rhymes (Guangyun) cites the Master Lu's Spring and Autumn Annals (Lushi Chunqiu) as the authority. We have now corrected the entry to refer to Master Lu's Spring and Autumn Annals (Lushi Chunqiu) as per the original text, and added the character mi after Dunxia Chou according to the original text.
