According to Tang Rhymes (Tangyun), Collection Rhymes (Jiyun), and Rhyme Assembly (Yunhui), the pronunciation is chong (level tone). According to Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), it means to worry. From the Book of Odes (Shijing): Worrying heart is full of anxiety.
Also, according to Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), the pronunciation is chong (level tone). The meaning is the same.
Also, according to Transferred Annotations on Ancient Pronunciation (Zhuanzhu guyin), the pronunciation is chong (departing tone). From the Book of Odes (Shijing): Following the grandson of Zhong, pacifying Chen and Song. Not letting me return, my worrying heart is heavy.
Also, it is sometimes written in the variant form (chong). From the Songs of Chu (Chuci): Exhausting my toiling heart. The commentary notes that this is a variant of chong.
