Compendium of Materia Medica (Bencao): Changpu is a particularly lush variety of the reed family.
Master Lu's Spring and Autumn Annals (Lushi Chunqiu): Fifty-seven days after the winter solstice, the changpu begins to sprout. Changpu is the first of all herbs to sprout; it begins its growth at this time.
Plants of the Southern Regions (Nanfang Caomu Zhuang): Changpu growing in the Panyu region has nine segments per inch.
Liu Xie, New Discourses (Xinlun): Changpu can repel fleas and lice, but it attracts house centipedes.
Also, according to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is interchangeable with the character chang.
