Kangxi Dictionary

Zi Collection, Upper Volume, Page 35, Entry 05 Pronounced guan. Refers to a cake made from pounded rice, identical to the character 粄 (bǎn). According to the "Jing Chu Sui Shi Ji" (Jing Chu Chronicle of Seasonal Events), on the third day of the third lunar month, people would mix the juice of cudweed with honey and rice flour to make a food called "Long She Pan" (Dragon Tongue Cake), used to ward off seasonal illnesses. Cudweed is also known as "Rong Mu" (Velvet Mother). The "Song Zong Shi" (Song Zong Poems) states: "When Rong Mu first sprouts, it coincides with the Cold Food Festival's prohibition on fire."
