According to Song Dynasty Fiction (Song xiaoshuo), when Xu Tingping was overseeing the liquor tax in Luzhou, he obtained an object by the river that looked like a child’s palm without fingers. Fearing it, he buried it. Someone said this was what the Illustrated Scroll of White Marsh (Baize tu) called a bang; consuming it grants great strength.
