Shuowen Jiezi (Shuowen): The seeds inside a melon. Xu states: It is a melon. Another name is huqi. Guangyun: The sections of a melon or gourd. Zengyun: The angled segments of a melon. Erya: Shicao: The seeds of a gourd. Commentary: The seeds inside a gourd. Sub-commentary: The segments inside a gourd. Another name is huqi. When human teeth are beautiful, they are said to resemble these. Xie Huilian, Sacrificial Text for Ancient Tombs: As well as plum and pear pits and melon segments. Also refers to fruit segments. Immortal Traditions Supplement: Luo Gongyuan took a citrus fruit and smelled it. Later, Emperor Ming took one to eat, and all one thousand pieces were missing one segment.
