Zi Collection, Upper Volume, Page 10, Entry 08 Radical: Heart (xīn) Pronounced biǎn (falling tone) In the "Guangyun" (Guangyun), it is pronounced fang mian qie. In the "Jiyun" (Jiyun), it is pronounced bi mian qie. Its pronunciation is the same as "bian" (bian). "Shuowen Jiezi" (Shuowen Jiezi) explains it as meaning sorrow. Another explanation is that it means urgent. The character is composed of "xin" (xin) and "bian" (bian) to indicate pronunciation. Some also believe it is composed of two "xin" (xin) characters, expressing the meaning of sorrow. Sometimes it is also written as bian (bian).
