In The Jade Treatise (Yupian), it is defined as clothing for an infant.
In the History of the Former Han (Qianhan shu), Record of Emperor Xuan, it is written: Although the great-grandson was in swaddling clothes, he was still imprisoned in the commandery residence jail.
The commentary by Li Qi states: Bao is the large covering for an infant.
The commentary by Meng Kang states: It is a blanket for an infant.
It is also used interchangeably with bao.
In the Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), Annals of Lu, it is written: King Cheng was young and in swaddling clothes.
The Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji) commentary states: The characters for swaddling clothes were rarely used in ancient times, so they were used interchangeably.
It is also used interchangeably with bao.
In the Book of the Feng and Shan Sacrifices (Fengshan shu), it is written: The legacy was established while in swaddling clothes.

In accordance with the original text, the character for residence has been added after commandery.
